The MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame, featured in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray, stands as a remarkable Mobile Suit piloted by Lowe Guele, a skilled member of the Junk Guild. Originating from Orb, this mobile suit is part of a series of five identical prototypes crafted using stolen data from the Earth Alliance's G Project. The initial objective was to create a Mobile Suit suitable for Naturals, leading to the integration of an incomplete Natural-use OS.
Distinguishing itself from its counterparts, the Gundam Astray Red Frame deviates from the Phase Shift armor seen in the G Project, opting for a lighter foam metal compound with minimal armor over the frame. This strategic choice enhances the mobile suit's agility and speed, setting it apart in terms of performance. The design incorporates a unique backpack feature, allowing for the mounting of additional equipment on the back by lowering it to the back skirt armor.
Armed with two head-mounted "Igelstellung" 75mm multi-barrel CIWS, backpack-mounted beam sabers for close combat, a Type 71 beam rifle, and a physical shield, the Red Frame possesses a formidable array of weaponry. Notably, Lowe Guele, the pilot, expands the Red Frame's capabilities by acquiring the "Gerbera Straight" katana. Modifications to the OS were made to accommodate this powerful melee weapon. Lowe's ingenuity also extends to the creation of a 150-meter long version of the katana, although it requires an alternative configuration.
Lowe's innovative upgrades for the Red Frame include a Flight Unit for flight capability and a Salvage Unit for underwater operations. After his return from Mars, Lowe introduces the Caletvwlch, a multifunctional handheld equipment, and the Ddraig Head, a special head unit designed to complement the former. These additions showcase the adaptability and versatility of the Gundam Astray Red Frame under Lowe Guele's skilled piloting and engineering expertise.
