The MBF-P03D Gundam Astray Blue Frame D emerges as a variant within the Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second L/G series, debuting in the novel Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Astray B and under the skilled piloting of Gai Murakumo. Crafted in the Ame-no-Mihashira's factory under Gai's direction, the Gundam Astray Blue Frame D is purpose-built for close combat scenarios, specifically tailored to counter Dante Gordigiani's MBF-P0X Gundam Astray Noir.

As a variant of the MBF-P03secondL Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second L and MBF-P03secondG Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second G, the Gundam Astray Blue Frame D undergoes significant modifications. It replaces the majority of its components with parts from the original Blue Frame, incorporating newly designed elements. Notably, a striker pack connector is added to the suit's back, facilitating the attachment of the Vouivre Striker—a modified AQM/E-X01 Aile Striker.

Armed with an array of 10 blades, the Gundam Astray Blue Frame D is strategically designed to capitalize on the potent output from the Vouivre Striker, allowing it to close in on enemies and engage in close combat. Gai further enhances the suit by incorporating a pair of blade guns mounted underneath the arms, providing additional firepower and augmenting the Gundam Astray Blue Frame D's effectiveness in close-quarters combat.
